The mystery of La Micachoana ice cream

Disclaimer: Before diving into the post, I want to make it clear that I am not involved in any illicit activities. I am simply a backpacker with a genuine interest in ice cream. In the unlikely event that this blog attracts unexpected attention, let it be known that my intentions are purely driven by curiosity.

La Micachoana is surely one of the most well-known ice cream brands in Mexico. No one can miss out on the signature pink-themed decor and its prime locations in surprisingly every town of México. Whether you find yourself in the gigantic metropolis of La Ciudad de México, the bustling tourist destination of Cancún, or a small local town like Comitán, La Micachoana is always there.

Every time I come across a La Micachoana store is every time I stop by to get myself a cup of their heavenly nut ice cream. The best ice cream ever. I lost count on the money I spent on their ice cream throughout the entire trip.

However, there is one thing that’s so puzzling to me: why such a nice ice cream brand rarely has any customers? I never queued in the store, rarely saw anyone buy any ice cream from them other than me, rarely saw any ice cream flavor other than my favorite nut flavor being scooped out. If that is the case, where does La Micachoana get the money to fund their activities at such prime locations?

If you are a fan of detective movies, you may be familiar with the scene where the covert agents meet each other at a secret location hidden in a random, ordinary but easily-recognized location. One can only imagine the activities happening behind closed doors.

Perhaps this seemingly innocent ice cream brand conceals a world of secretive and highly important activities. The stores I frequently visited might be hubs for spies to connect in plain sight amongst the bustling crowds. Perhaps it’s part of a mass surveillance organization in México.

I cried so hard when they’re closed

Or perhaps it’s just an ordinary ice cream brand whose nut ice cream has captured the heart of a small group of loyal customers like me.
